By now, everyone has at least heard of the benefits of using essential oils. There are so many to choose from, it can be difficult to find a starting point. I’m here to help.

Before I get to the 5 oils, I’d like to give some tips:
Always dilute oils, especially hot oils such as peppermint or oregano, before applying topically to avoid burns/skin reactions. A good ratio is 8-10 drops of EO to 10 ml of carrier oil (grapeseed oil, olive oil, sweet almond oil).
Always source your oils from a reputable company. I love Revive. If you don’t mind supporting MLM, Young Living or DoTerra are both good quality, as well.
Be sure to research which oils are safe for pets, if you have them. And for pregnancy/nursing.
1) Lavender
Lavender oil is, by far, one of my favorites. Lavender is good for basically everything. Here are a few popular uses:
Stress and anxiety relief
Fighting infection
Insomnia
I find myself diffusing this or applying it to my temples to relieve anxiety. I also use this in many of my homemade skin products.
2) Eucalyptus
Now, I don’t get to use this one super frequently. My husband is allergic (It gives him awful migraines). But this one is so versatile, and I, personalIy, love the smell:
Clearing sinuses (cold/flu)
Joint paint relief
Immune health
This one is most frequently used by diffusing it to help with allergies and cold/flu symptoms. I love to mix it with lavender when making bath salt for a relaxing salt soak.
3) Peppermint
Peppermint is ah-mazing. It smells awesome, and it is a multi-use oil:
Nausea relief
Headache relief
Energy booster
I apply this *diluted* to my temples to help with headaches (which I get FREQUENTLY). I go through a lot of peppermint. *Do not use while breastfeeding. Peppermint oil can reduce milk supply*
Tip for headaches/migraines: Put 8-10 drops of peppermint oil in a bathtub (or small washtub, big enough for your feet) with hot water. Put your feet in the water and an ice pack or cool washcloth on the back of your neck.
4) Lemon
Lemon (really, any citrus oil) give me all the 𝑆𝑢𝑚𝑚𝑒𝑟𝑡𝑖𝑚𝑒 𝑉𝑖𝑏𝑒𝑠:
Mood Booster
Disinfectant/Cleaner
Deodorizing
Diffuse this with lavender or eucalyptus, it smells amazing. Use in homemade cleaners for added disinfectant.
5) Patchouli
I may be the odd one out, on this one. I love the smell of patchouli. It has an earthy sort of scent to it:
Skin health
Respiratory health
Anxiety reducing
I love to diffuse this with lemongrass oil. This one may help reduce wrinkles and help with dandruff (try putting a few drops right in your shampoo, being careful not to get it in your eyes). Use for dry skin aid, as well.
These 5 oils are my favorites for beginners because of their versatility and variety of health benefits. Use essential oils in homemade beauty products, topically directly to the skin (avoid eyes), or in a diffuser. Always make sure you do your research as some oils aren’t animal safe, kid safe, or safe for certain health conditions. Ask your doctor for more information 😊
